Smoking wood is a type of firewood for sale used in BBQ smokers and are used to smoke the flavored smoke into your smoking box chamber. They are not suppose to catch on fire, but to keep the flame low and used to smoke proficiently  to flavor your meats, games meats, poultry, seafood, fish and pork and chicken. They are a special type of firewood that is used in cooking. Don't be disappointed if they don't catch a flame because that is not their reason. Cooking and smoking smoke is what you after to create your best food.

Hickory wood - Is known as the King of the Smoking Wood and it is part of the nut family that comes out of the nut orchard groves. It has nice often very aromatic smell to flavor all your meats and pork. Hickory wood for sale is most famous with that it can offer to smoking pork and beef ribs. It is known as a great all around smoking wood but often does better when it is used with another Smoking wood. One of those smoking wood recipes that goes well with hickory wood happens to be pecan wood. Hickory wood and pecan wood is a great and famous wood recipe. The hickory smoking wood gives it that authentic flavor and the pecan wood keeps it moist because using hickory wood alone tend to dry out the meat a little. If you are really into using your hickory wood then make sure you take the bark off your hickory wood pieces because hickory wood with the bark tends to give it a bitter aftertaste with your hickory smoking wood. Taking the bark off really helps on cutting out the bitterness which is a famous technique for competition BBQ smokers.

Pecan wood - Pecan smoking wood is a national favorite. It has light flavor and the nice part of pecan smoking wood is it can be used a "base" in your BBQ smoker box. Often smokers a re used to using oak firewood as a base and this is not really necessary. Pecan cuts a great corner of using as a prime smoking wood and also performing as a great base of you don't want to use charcoal. We have used pecan wood for seafood, all meats and poultry. Pecan smoking wood is also great in pizza ovens. Whether you are using your wood fired outdoor oven for pizza, burgers or meats, choose pecan smoking wood and you will be greatly satisfied.  Pecan as a light wonderful flavor and it will not overpower and of your food.  Here at the Upchurch Cooking Firewood wood shop we usually start with pecan smoking wood as our base then we use another cooking wood to supplement it.

 

Walnut wood - Walnut is a underrated wood that is fabulous as a smoking wood. It does have some similarities to hickory but the walnut smoking wood is sweeter and it will not dry out any of your food that you are cooking. Walnut is know for many different applications but we love it here at the wood shop. We recently have been using it together with Pecan wood. We begin our base in your smoker box with pecan smoking wood and let it burn down some. Then we begin to add the walnut smoking wood on top and have had fabulous results!

 

Oak smoking wood - Oak has some benefits as a smoking wood but I find them very limited. One famous smoking wood recipe happens to be Oak smoking wood with Pecan smoking wood. Oak wood has known to be in the past as a base wood for your smoker box because it can have a long burn time if you are going to be cooking for over 8 hours. Then adding the Pecan wood on top of it makes it a good smoking wood recipe. But, to bypass the oak wood, Pecan wood can do the same as a base wood and give you a head start as a base. Oak wood has very little flavor to it. You may want to consider pecan smoking wood as your base wood.

Hi Tom,

For seafood I’ve had some really great results with fruit woods and Pecan as a light nut smoking wood. Some of the light fruit woods include Pear and Persimmon and Apricot wood. If you are going to the nut smoking wood I’d stay away from mesquite and hickory. For you first go around, choose the pecan smoking wood. Then you may want to venture out with some light fruit woods.
